MOT - BRAKING SYSTEM
Correct operation and performance of the front and rear brakes will be checked.
Inside Cabin Checks:-
- Anti-lock braking system (if fitted):
- Warning Light Function
- Operation Sequence
- Footbrake - Reserve Travel
- Pedal - Condition of Rubber Face
- Servo Braking Assistance - Correct Operation
- Handbrake - Reserve Brake - Correct Operation
Inside Engine Bay - Under Bonnet Inspection:-
- Master cylinder
- Servo Unit
- Hydraulic Pipes
Under Vehicle Braking System Inspection:-
- Hydraulic Brake Pipes and Joints
- Brake Discs, Drums and Pads
- Handbrake Linkage System and Cables
- Evidence of Hydraulic Fluid Loss
DOORS, BONNETS AND HATCHES
The front doors must open from inside and outside the vehicle. All doors must open, close and latch correctly. Bonnets, Boots Hatcjes and Tailgates must close correctly and securely
ENGINE EMISSIONS
Emissions are monitored and must be within the regulation limits set for particular year and model of vehicle.
Improper combustion leading to excessive smoke will also be inspected. Diesel smoke emissions will be monitored.
FUEL SYSTEM
- Evidence of Leaking Fuel
- Condition of Fuel Lines
- Securely Fastening Filler Cap
- Intact and Functional Filler cap Seal
HORN
- Horn Operation
- Horn Volume
- Mono Tone Sound
VEHICLE LIGHTS
- Light Operation
- Bulb Condition
- Housing Security
Headlight, Side lights, Indicators and Tail Lights:-
- Dip and Aim Should be within Correct Parameters
- Lights,indicators and hazard lights must work independantly without interferance
- Rear fog lamps should be present and working (Vehicles after 1980)
MIRRORS
Mirrors considered for MOT testing must be:-
- Securely Mounted
- Visible from the driving position
- Free from distortion likely to imapir use
REGISTRATION PLATES AND VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
The Licence/Registration plate should be:-
- Present
- Securely Mounted
- Have correctly formed letters and numbers
- Legible
The VIN number must be
- Permanently displayed and fixed
- Consistent
- Legible
SEAT BELTS
All vehicles requiring and having seat belts must be checked for:-
- Seat Belt Mount Security
- Locking Stem Security
- Webbing Condition - free from cuts or frays
- Belt retraction functional
- Seat Security (depending on belt mechanism)
VEHICLE SEATS
- Driver and Front Passenger Seat must be secure
- All Seat backs should be securable in an upright positiom

- Complete set of Wheel Nuts
- Attached Securely
VEHICLE STRUCTURE & INTEGRITY
- Vehicle Body Panels should be secure
- No dangerous or sharp edges caused by damage or corrosion
- Corrosion:-
- Free from excessive corrosion in Specified Areas associated with:-

- areas likely to influence vehicle braking or steering
WINDSCREEN
Inspection of Screen condition and any items likely to affect the driver's visibility
- Windscreen Chips or Scratches
- Wipers
- Screen Washers
